A New Moon Rising

In Celebration of Menopause

Posted by xelene on October 8, 2007

I love menopause, and I don’t mean Menopause the Musical, though I loved that too.

After the horrendous years of perimenopause when I was severely depressed and cried for hours at a time (no mood swings for me; I went down and stayed down) menopause came as a welcome relief. Not only that, but my nails hardened and for the first time I had long fingernails; I dropped a lot of excess belly weight; and I began to feel alive, as if somehow I was reborn.

And maybe I was.

Traditionally women have viewed menopause as an end, but what if it’s really a beginning? After all, when the moon wanes, a new moon rises.
